A Description of Iyengar Yoga & Teacher Experience

Welcome to The Belmont Yoga Studio

Located in Cushing Square, we offer classes and workshops in Iyengar style hatha yoga. The Iyengar method  places special focus on developing flexibility, strength and endurance, emphasizing principles of correct movement and alignment. Iyengar yoga is meditation in action. While practicing yoga postures the mind is focused  on the actions of the body and the movement of the breath. With regular practice a student's ability to relax and concentrate improves, leading to a greater sense of inner awareness.

We are a small studio

At the Belmont Yoga Studio, we pay careful attention to students and offer classes in a supportive and friendly environment. Classes are limited to 16 students.

 Our teachers are experienced

Candace Carey Satlak began practicing yoga in 1984 and has been teaching since 1990. Joseph Satlak has been teaching since 1995 and is a certified Iyengar instructor. They both have studied at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India and are graduates of The Yoga Room Advanced Studies Program, Berkeley,  CA.  Candace and Joseph are featured models in the book Yoga: Awakening the Inner Body by Donald Moyer. They continue their studies under the guidance of senior instructors Donald Moyer of Berkeley, California and Faeq Biria of Paris,  France.       Anne Curtis has been teaching since 2003. She did her first Iyengar based teacher training in Palo Alto, California with Larry Hatlett. She currently studies at the Belmont Yoga Studio and with other nationally known Iyengar Yoga teachers.  Laureen Federico is a new teacher. She has been studying and practicing Iyengar Yoga since 2006 and assists Candace in her classes.
